Amazing Spider-Man #6 CGC 4.0 Origin and 1st app. Cream to Off-White pgs; Universal holder; Unrestored; CGC#1239344011. Ditko cvr/art; origin and 1st app. This early entry into the classic Lee/Ditko run on Amazing Spider-Man features the first of the oft employed animal-based villains that would become a tried and true format for the title, in this instance the Lizard aka scientist Curt Connors earns his nefarious name after creating a serum that would help him regrow his missing arm, much like some lizards can regenerate body parts.
The good news, the arm grows back, the bad news, Connors is now a crazed lizard with destructive tendencies. The story reaches the irascible and irritating J. Jonah Jameson, who challenges Spidey to go down the Florida and take on the scaly scientist. Which leads to the typical conundrum of Parker/Spider-Man being in the same place at the same time, our hapless hero twists himself into a pretzel to avoid revealing himself to Jameson, while saving the day and bringing back photos of the action, which JJJ quickly shreds in frustration.
Any way you slice it, this is one of the very first Spider-Man adventures, featuring a memorable baddie, and typically iconic illustrations by the uber-talented Steve Ditko.
